      <image:caption>I was on Superior Hiking Trail and I filled up my water at the Temperance River. I was tired and thirsty. As I drank the water it became crystal clear how dependent I am, we all are, on the natural world. The moment at the Temperance also had a deeper message for me: you belong here. I felt a deep sense of connection to the pulse of the universe, and an expansive love that was big enough to hold all of my insecurities, “flaws,” mishaps, gifts, and brilliance. This love also included nature—the forest, the river, the rock—it all belonged. Nature was a gateway for me to experience life in a new way. Evolutionarily as a human species, we’ve spent 99.99% of our time outdoors and now more than ever we’re collectively less engaged with the natural world than our ancestors. Scientists are finding that being in nature has health benefits such as lifting the mood, lowering blood pressure, and lowering cortisol. What I’ve discovered firsthand through experience, not only can improve basic health, but it can inspire us to gain perspective and impact how we see ourselves and our participation in the world.</image:caption>

There will be free time to relax, explore, and socialize. Day 2: Wake up to a freshly cooked breakfast.  We'll do yoga and meditate in the morning.  Then we'll pack up camp and continue on the trail.       <image:caption>Trained in field biology and marine science, Colleen Corrigan taught high school in Belize before taking conservation roles at the Bureau of Land Management (Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Nevada) and the US Park Service (Acadia National Park, Maine). While gaining her Master’s Degree in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Colleen began teaching art courses designed to enhance participants’ experiences in and connection to the outdoors. She has held positions in the US Fish and Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy, and the United Nations Environment Programme’s World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge, UK. She is certified in group facilitation skills and has consulted for UNESCO, National Geographic and other organizations since earning her doctorate in environmental management and indigenous issues in 2018 at the University of Queensland, Australia. She continues to work on global biodiversity conservation policy and practice, traveling the world and bringing her sketchbook wherever she goes. She is a keen advocate of empowering people and instilling awareness of the natural world by teaching others the art of sketching simple, colorful images that can create stronger connections between people and nature.</image:caption>

Neurodivergent women have unique challenges in these areas, as many aspects of society have not been crafted with us in mind (to put it lightly). Nature and belonging go hand in hand. Nature is an amazing support for this kind of work because it can have calming, soothing, effects that we’ll explore during the retreat (we’ll get into this on the retreat!). This four-night trip is an ideal introduction to backpacking offering beginners the basics of wilderness travel, yoga, and mindfulness. Those with more experience will have an opportunity to expand on backcountry skills such as navigation and leadership while spending time with like-hearted folks. We’ll plan to cover about 3-8 miles of backpacking or hiking per day and can adjust the mileage based on the needs of the group.       <image:caption>Laura Adrian is a yogini and meditator who finds beauty, awe and inspiration by directly connecting to the Earth whether in a city park or wilderness area. Since 2014 she has been offering retreats and expeditions across the Upper Midwest where she shares her adventurous spirit with seasoned adventurers or nature-curious folks. Laura is a Certified Wilderness First Responder and has spent over 365 nights in the wilderness. She is especially interested in creating supportive spaces for people new to nature and wilderness into nature. Through these experiences, Laura has encouraged women to develop wilderness skills, challenge themselves, and develop a more beautiful relationship with the natural world.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Secrets of Nature Backpacking (Copy) - Sample Itinerary:</image:title>
      <image:caption>Day 1: We’ll meet around 1 PM near the trailhead and begin with a welcome circle. We’ll get our gear ready and set out for our adventure starting with a hike about 1 mile through wooded terrain. After making camp you’ll have time to explore and rest. We'll dive into our first workshop where we’ll explore the park and dive into core practices of Conscious Nature Connection. We'll have a nice cooked dinner. In the evening we'll have a special program and a fire.  There will be free time to relax, explore, and socialize. Day 2: We’ll start the day with a freshly cooked breakfast. Then we'll explore the Rhythms of Nature and what we can learn from cycles in nature through our third and final workshop. We’ll pack up camp, have lunch and complete with a closing circle. We’ll be back at the cars around 1-2 PM.</image:caption>
